Elmwood Park is what happens when a Chicago bungalow neighborhood ends up on the other side of the city line. Same buildings, different tax bill and different schools.

The village sits directly against Montclare and Belmont Cragin, and walking across Harlem Avenue you would not know you had changed municipalities. Same brick two-flats, same bungalows, same tight lots, same era.

What changes is the tax rate and the school district, and for a lot of buyers that is the entire reason they are looking here rather than three blocks east.

Metra's Milwaukee District West line stops in Elmwood Park with a straight run to Union Station, and the Kennedy is a few minutes north. The town is compact enough to be genuinely walkable in parts.
